UAE students to be offered Scotland scholarships

DUBAI — Zayed University and Al Maktoum Institute for Arabic & Islamic Studies in Scotland will offer a new scholarship programme for UAE students in Scotland each year in cooperation with Al Maktoum Humanitarian Foundation.

This was stated by Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice-President of Zayed University, at a Press conference yesterday.

Mirza Al Sayegh, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Al Maktoum Institute, Mohammed Obaid bin Ghannam, Director of Al Maktoum Foundation, College deans, faculty members, and the selected students were also present.

Dr Al Jassim assured that the success of these trips — organised by the university, Al Maktoum Institute for Arabic & Islamic Studies in Scotland and Al Maktoum Foundation —enhanced the achieved goals and reflected the cultural and academic awareness of the students.

"These trips come as part of the university's openness towards the different cultures of the nations and embody the cooperation agreement which was signed by the university and Al Maktoum Institute," he said.

Through this cooperation, Zayed University constantly receives faculty from Al Maktoum Institute who deliver lectures and courses for the students in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses assuring the civilised and modern roles of UAE academic universities in developing the progress of the country and the understandings of its students.

Dr Al Jassim lauded the initiative of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, for supporting the Emirati women and encouraging them to express their opinions and display the image of their country positively.

He also thanked Al Maktoum Institute for Arabic & Islamic Studies and Al Maktoum Foundation for sponsoring the trips and supporting the expenses and accommodation of the students during their stay.

The numbers of students this year is 10 from each college in Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses.

Mirza Al Sayegh, Chairman-Board of Trustees, Al Maktoum Institute for Arabic & Islamic Studies, said the institution offers an academic platform that improves the image of Arabs and Muslims and encourages Arabic, Islamic and Western understanding. International and multicultural students complete their postgraduate studies in the Institute.
