UAE ‘stands up’ against poverty and inequality

DUBAI — Millions of people around the world are expected to “Stand Up and Speak Out” in support of the UNMC Millennium Development Goals today and tomorrow, committing to end poverty and inequality by the year 2015.

In the UAE, organisers expect that thousands of children, men and women from various institutions and organisations will pledge their support to eradicating poverty and inequality as they “Stand Up” for 2 minutes in their own locations and send in their numbers to make a Guinness World Record, breaking last year’s record of 23.25 million people who “Stood Up” on the same day.

Organised by the United Nation’s Development Programme (UNDP) along with IAHV and the Art of Living, the “Stand Up and Speak Out” campaign comes with the personal endorsement of Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, UN Goodwill Ambassador and Chairperson of the International Humanitarian City.

In the UAE, participants are invited to organise “Stand Up and Speak Out” events in their institutions and organisations by sending an email with their names, contact details and the number of people “Standing Up” to standupuae@gmail.com

From 6pm on Tuesday, to 2 m on Wednesday, “Stand Up Events” can be organised all over the country.

Participants are required to send in a digital photograph of the event along with a signed and stamped reporting form back to the organisers before 3pm on October 17. For more details, call 04-3680219 or 050-4520969.
