Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, signed the agreement for the UAE, while Pakistani Interior Minister Rahman Malik signed on behalf of his country.

The agreement will allow the convicts in both countries, whose jail terms exceed six months, to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries.

Shaikh Saif said the deal comes in line with the directives by the higher leadership to ease burden on societal categories, especially the inmates of the correctional and penal institutions.

On his part, the Pakistani minister lauded the efforts of both the governments to achieve international criminal justice and fight all forms of crime, stressing keenness of both sides to enforce the law and observe human rights and international conventions in this respect.
