Abu Dhabi – Major-General Dr Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said the UAE has become a role model in the region for reinforcing child protection and safety.

The remarks were made by the secretary-general during a ceremony to honour the partners of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, which was held recently at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ).

Major-General Al Nuaimi underlined the higher committee’s support for local and international efforts, in response to the directives of Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

He noted that the higher committee is a beacon of hope for child protection, and contributes to efforts by individuals working in this field, in line with the Ministry of Interior’s child protection strategy.

The attendees of the event watched a documentary that portrayed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in youth care. They also watched a play presented by the Abu Dhabi Education Council’s students, emphasising the importance of protecting children against neglect.

Major Dr Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre, underlined the importance of partnership between the centre and all institutions across the public and private sectors to improve child protection and develop proper tools in accordance with the best international practices.

Major Al Ali also called for expanding education amongst community members, boosting their awareness in all areas related to child protection, and implementing various initiatives and activities.
