The UAE is free of avian influenza and laboratories across the country have not detected any case of bird flu, he said.

All samples tested and analysed by quarantine inspectors have also shown no traces of the disease, Al Kindi added.

“Although all bird shipments entering the country through the Ghuweifat border checkpoint are safe, we are exercising utmost caution to ensure safety of any shipment coming to the country,” he told the Arabic daily Al Ittihad.

The minister explained that the Ghuweifat Quarantine Authority denied entry and confiscated some birds and falcons for reasons related to administrative procedures and not because they were infected with birdflu.
