UAE for peaceful resolution of islands issue

DUBAI — The UAE reiterates its call for resolving the issue of the three UAE islands (Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs), currently under Iranian occupation, through peaceful means or referral of the issue to an international tribunal, said Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair.

Al Ghurair made his remarks at a meeting on Thursday in Dubai with Iranian Ambassador to the UAE Hamid Reza Asefi.

Asefi underscored the deep-rooted relations between Iran and the UAE adding that the two representative bodies of the two countries can forge relations that are in the interest of both peoples.

He stressed that a joint UAE-Iran parliamentary friendship committee could be set up to coordinate between the two bodies on a all issues.

The Iranian envoy stressed that a planned UAE-Iran joint economic committee is being discussed by the two countries.

Separately on Thursday, Al Ghurair received German Ambassador Jorgen Steltzer. The meeting dealt with the UAE-Germany relations and ways to boost them in all areas.
