WAM news agency said UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Naji Al Nuaimi on Wednesday at his Al Ain palace.

“Naji Al Nuaimi, the UAE diplomat who was abducted in Iraq on May 16, was released tonight,” UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah confirmed late Tuesday, adding that the diplomat was in good health and on his way home.

The minister expressed the UAE’s “deep gratitude to the Iraqi government for its faithful efforts which culminated in the safe release of Al Nuaimi.”

“We are also thankful to the various Iraqi political forces for their role in securing Al Nuaimi’s release, and to the sisterly Iraqi people for their appreciation of the UAE humanitarian role in Iraq,” the minister added.

Sheikh Abdullah congratulated the family of the diplomat and the UAE people on the end of the ordeal.
