UAE Control System on drinking water to become mandatory during Q3 in 2013

Eng. Mohammed Saleh Badri, Acting Director General of Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology has announced that the UAE Control System on drinking water will be implemented at the UAE markets with effect from third quarter of 2013.

He said in a statement issued by ESMA today that the ESMA has in coordination with the Federal Customs Authority decided to prevent the entry of any non registered products in accordance with the new drinking water control system, endorsed by the Cabinet under chairmanship of the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on banning the entry of non registered products with effect from the enforcement of the system.

Badri noted that the ESMA will educate all partners about the system and implementation procedures through workshops, brochures and media campaigns.

He added that the ESMA urges companies to register their projects, which are subjected to the system, pointing out that the ESMA will commence control on the products in coordination with competent authorities. “The implementation of the system will help unify control measures on drinking water nationwide,” Badri observed.
