UAE affirms commitment to international efforts

ABU DHABI -: The UAE’s major humanitarian agency affirms commitment to international humanitarian efforts to minimize the suffering of millions of underprivileged people worldwide, improve their humanitarian conditions and to add impetus to development plans for developing countries, according to Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE’s Red Crescent Authority (RCA) Ahmed Humaid Al-Mazrouie.

In a speech at a ceremony held Thursday under the auspices of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of RCA to mark the World Humanitarian Day, Al-Mazrouei said the occasion provides an opportunity for humanitarian partners to exchange views on core issues in rapidly changing situations and to call for more efforts to fend off the dangers of natural disasters, climate change, the financial crisis, poverty, scarcity of water, food and medicine.

CEO of UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid (OCFA) Sultan Al-Shamsi noted the UAE’s international humanitarian role under the leadership

of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and H.H General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and follow up by H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed, who is also Chairman of OCFA.

He noted that the UAE, as part of its foreign policy, has so far contributed around AED 9 billion to humanitarian, development and charity projects in more than 90 countries across the globe.
