Khaleej Times visited a number of typing centres on Saturday after the deadline was extended but representatives were unaware of the change in dates.
“We haven’t received any circular from the authority and we are still waiting for the confirmation,” said a representative from Al Manama Document Centre in Karama.
Most typing centres had not received the official circular notifying the extension of deadline but typing centre owners were optimistic of a change. However, the statement issued by the authority, extending the deadline, was published on the authority’s website.
“I am sure there will be lesser rush at the centres because of the extension but we are sure there will be a lot of work in the coming months,” added a representative from another typing centre in Karama.
Typing centres expressed the new deadline would allow them to process entries without errors as there will be lesser applications to fill everyday.
“Earlier, we used to make a lot of mistakes while processing the forms because there was no time to verify the entries. Now we can spend some time verifying the typed forms before sending them to EIDA,” added the owner of a typing centre.
The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) had earlier stipulated strict fines for typing institutes making erroneous applications. Fines range from Dh5 to Dh30 for every erroneous application, depending on the nature of the mistake, which would then be deducted from the typing centre’s deposit.
“It takes 20 minutes to process a single application and we really needed more time to complete all the pending applications. With the new dates, we expect the rush outside our typing centre to reduce and this will give us time to concentrate on typing applications,” said Mohammed Haneef, a representative at a typing centre. Residents welcomed the extension as there would be lesser rush at the registration centres.
