Muzaffar Ali Mir was killed in his apartment in a Ghusais residential complex.

The convicts, S.A.A., 26, and M.R.W., 28, had been incited to commit the murder by another person, the victim's Pakistani neighbour, Abdul Jamil Abdul Qayum, who has fled the country. Authorities are already making efforts to get the mastermind of this heinous crime extradited to the UAE.

The fugitive, Abdul Jamil, had told the convicts that he needed some money and that he wanted them to help him in getting it from the victim's apartment.

The three men met in September last year in the fugitive's apartment where they had dinner together and later paid a visit to the victim living in the adjacent apartment.

Abdul Jamil asked the victim for money but the latter refused. An arguement ensued which turned into a quarrel.

Abdul Jamil was aided by the two accomplices in subduing the victim; they then tied the victim's hands behind his back with a pair of trousers and tied his feet with rope.

The two convicts used a piece of cloth to strangle the victim to death.

The body was discovered in the apartment by police on the evening of September 27.

Abdul Jamil fled the country on September 29 and police arrested S.A.A. as a suspect on October 3, from Nayef area. During interrogation, the man confessed to his role in the crime.

He told police that they had found only Dh180 in the victim's wallet which they took along with his telephone book and his mobile telephone.

S.A.A. also said that they had been welcomed by the victim into the apartment and were offered soft drinks.

The forensic laboratory carried out a DNA test on a sample taken from soft drinking glasses found in the apartment.

The man said he had sold the mobile phone to a shop for Dh120.
