The two Sudanese convicts will be deported after serving their prisons terms, the court ordered.

According to the court records, the duo — a deliveryman and his unemployed friend — tried to expropriate Dh70,000 from an undercover police officer after claiming that they had $1 million in almost authentic bills, but tainted with a black solution, for sale.

The deliveryman, 44, and the unemployed, 38, were caught on August 20 as they were trying to cheat a police officer of Dh 70,000 in Naif. An Emirati police officer said the Anti-Economic Crimes Unit of the Dubai Police received reliable information that the second defendant (the unemployed) possessed $1 million tainted in black and wanted to sell it for Dh70,000. The police coordinated with the informant and set the defendant up at a restaurant in Bani Yas Street.

An undercover officer met with the defendant and gave him Dh70,000. When the officer received the bag, which allegedly contained $1 million, the undercover officer signalled to the cops and the defendant was arrested.

The police found 10 packets of fake $100 bills. When questioned about the source of the bills, the defendant alleged he got them form the first defendant. The latter claimed a Nigerian national had given him the tainted fake dollars to circulate and promised him a share. He, in turn, gave the fake dollars to the second defendant and promised him about Dh4,000 if he managed to circulate them. According to the Criminal Laboratory report, the bills were printed in a way ordinary people could not recognise that they were fake but they carried no security barcode.
