The two were arrested on Monday after the Pakistan national, identified as PA, was trying to purchase some gold jewellery using a counterfeit credit card. The jewellery shop owners informed the police who immediately rushed to the scene and arrested PA.

The accused told the police he had got the card from an Emirati identified as SAA, who had told him that the card had a credit worth Dh6 million.

SAA, who was arrested on the basis of this information, told the police that he had responded to an email offer and applied for the card using his personal details. He said that while the card was sent to him, one had to first deposit some money before using it. He said he briefed PA about it but he didn’t deposit the money, so the card was inactive.

However, investigations revealed that the card was counterfeit.

Police have warned residents against falling prey to international gangs that look to con them by sending counterfeit credit cards. afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
