A.M.A., 20, and A.S.G., 19, approached their victim, H.Z, near a Rigga street hotel at 12.30am on June 18 this year. One of the culprits was dressed in a kandoura, the other in jeans and T-shirt. They claimed that they were police officers and pushed H.Z. into their four-wheel drive vehicle telling him they will "cancel his residence visa" and drove off.

The culprits then stopped near a car showroom along Al Ittihad road and searched H.Z. They took Dh3,000 from his wallet and two ATM bank cards. They then drove him to a shopping mall in Ghusais where they withdrew Dh2,000 using one of H. Z.'s ATM cards and Dh5,000 while using the other.

The culprits then drove their victim to Sharjah. They let him go along Al Wahda road after dividing the money between themselves. They also took H. Z.'s driving licence. H.Z. reported the incident at the nearest police station and provided them with a physical descriptions of the two suspects. Both were later arrested.

Sting operation

In another case, the court sentenced an Iranian sailor to life in prison for trafficking and possession of narcotic substances. A.A.K., 26, was arrested following a police sting operation after an informant alerted police that the accused was possessing some hashish and he was looking for a buyer.

Police laid a trap to apprehend the culprit red-handed and on April 12 this year an undercover officer and the police informant met A.A.K. near a Deira hotel along the Dubai Creek. The accused got into the informant's car and they drove off to a nearby beach where they negotiated the sale of the drugs. The informant offered to purchase the narcotics for Dh4,000 only, but the accused insisted on the original fixed price of Dh4,300.

After recieving the money, A. A. K. handed 250 grammes of hashish in a paper box over to the police informant and under cover officer. At that time police waiting nearby caught the accused red-handed and took him into custody.

Drug trafficking

The court also sentenced M.R.S., a 21-year-old Iranian to seven years in prison for trading in and possession of narcotics. The accused was arrested following a police sting operation in which undercover officers posed as potential buyers for the drugs. On May 9 this year the accused met the undercover officers and sold them a kilo of heroin and half a kilo of hashish for Dh90,000. When the deal was completed police arrested the accused with the marked currency notes in his hand.
