Two charged with arson at police station

DUBAI — The Dubai Public Prosecution has charged two UAE nationals with arson and setting fire at a police station.

The two nationals, a 20-year-old student and a 20-year-old unemployed, have been referred to the Dubai Court for setting fire at Al Qusaispolice station.

The two suspects, who allegedly set fire to blankets and pillows, were charged with damaging property and endangering lives of inmates and police officers. The Public Prosecution has also charged a Ukranian visitor with theft after she took away euros 600 of her room mate. She also stole the passport of the victim

Jail for theft

The Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced 12 suspects on theft charges.Two unemployed Iranians were sentenced to two years in jail for carrying arms and stealing garments worth Dh100,000 from a shop in Dubai.

The court also sentenced two Ethiopian visitors to two years in jail for theft. They had duped a visitor of Dh54,000.

An Indian worker was sentenced two month in jail for stealing Dh13,000.

A UAE national and a Yemeni national were sentenced to two months in jail for steeling Dh1,000 from a charity.

A Filipina was sentenced to two months in jail for stealing Dh300 from a visitor at Dubai International Airport.

The court also sentenced a Pakistani national and two Indians to six months in jail for theft.

Bribe attempt

The Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced a Pakistani driver to three months in jail to be followed by deportation for offering bribe of Dh200 to a Dubai Port Authority official after he was caught using an entry permit card belonging to another person.

Sexual assault

The Dubai Criminal Court has acquitted a student and a salesman of the charges of sexually harassing their Chinese colleague during a farewell party organised by the company. However, the two were handed three months in jail to be followed by deportation for consuming alcohol.
