The public prosecution referred the case to the court recently.

The five will be facing charges of bribery, divulging confidential information and criminal complicity.

A 41-year-old and a 23-year-old — both Emiratis — and a 28-year-old stateless man are charged with taking bribes worth more than Dh4.5 million for unlawfully dealing in plots of land belonging to Sama Dubai.

The Emiratis are also accused of divulging confidential information related to the clients of Sama Dubai and property prices.

The fourth suspect, a 42-year-old Emirati former chief executive at the Lagoons, is charged with asking for Dh3 million in bribe.

The fifth suspect — a 32-year-old Syrian who worked as property development director at Damac, property developer — is charged with taking more than Dh500,000 in bribe in exchange of information with the four former employees of Sama Dubai.

This is the first case to be heard by the Criminal Court of First Instance since the Dubai government announced a crackdown on corruption.
