Trapped in lift, watchman dies
SHARJAH — A 30-year-old Indian watchman of a building on Al Wahda Street died yesterday after apparently being trapped in an elevator while transporting a huge metal garbage container.
The residents, it is learnt, informed the police that till shortly before he was found dead in the elevator, the watchman had been as usual collecting and clearing the garbage from various floors of the building and dumping it in a garbage container.
The police said the body of the watchman was found crushed between the elevator wall and the metal garbage container.
The police, who are still investigating the cause of death, said it’s possible the elevator got stuck due to an excessive load factor.
The police said they had received a call from the watchman’s brother, who also works in the same building as a watchman, after he realised something had gone wrong with his brother while inside the lift.
The police arrived immediately and managed to open the elevator door and found the watchman’s body inside. The body has been sent for a detailed forensic examination.
