A two-day workshop, organised by the Dubai Customs at its headquarters, is aimed at ensuring that the department supports the legitimate trade and shares with the international community on the control of WMDs.

The workshop is being attended by 40 customs inspectors and a number of Dubai Civil Defence officers.

Mohammed Al Mari, the Executive Director of Customs Cargo Operations, said the programme had been developed to control products which had multiple uses.

"The programme works on the control of products or materials contained in the international controlled lists that being exported through Dubai ports," Al Mari said.

"The training programme comprises a series of courses. These are part of Dubai Customs preparations for enforcing the Federal Law after its ratification. The training will facilitate Dubai’s export control process, enabling inspectors and other competent staff to implement the programme," he said.`

Dubai Customs has also published a booklet ‘Partners Guide: Safety Exports’ for the awareness of its customers and investors.

"The guide also helps in achieving protection for customers and investors through preventing the export of dual-use items or dealing with suspicious companies, which may lead to international prosecution,"Al Mari added.`
