Curtis J. Kelly, Vice-President of Assist America, USA's largest provider of global emergency services through employee benefit plans, gave a group of insurance intermediaries an overview of the criteria that should be taken into account in evaluating different 'Assistance' (the industry term for Global Emergency Medical Services) plans.

"Changing insurance companies will almost always involve a substantial difference in the type of Assistance Services that are provided, as they vary greatly. The purpose of this training session is to alert insurance intermediaries to this problem, help them determine the criteria for comparisons and provide them with the basic knowledge to discuss these problems with their clients," said Kelly. "The need for assistance plans in today's world is imperative as "the global economy has created many new business opportunities. But with these come new hazards as well. When an employer requires an employee to travel on company business, the employer has a paternal and civil responsibility to assist the employee in the event of a medical, legal or security emergency."

Citing the case of the recent Olympic games which took place in Athens, Kelly informed the audience that Assist America deployed a huge security contingency to tide over the fear of terrorist threats.
