ABU DHABI — The Health Awareness Section of the Abu Dhabi's Department of Preventive Medicine will hold training course for its health workers on diabetics.
To be held from December 19 to 23, the course will help doctors and nurses to boost their skills on how best to educate and counsel diabetic patients to take proper care of themselves and have full control of their sickness.
It also aims at educating the health workers how to work as a one comprehensive team made up of doctors, nurses and dieticians so as to provide their patients the best health care.
The holding of the course followed a disturbing discovery made by the Section on the alarming rate of the spread of diabetes among the UAE nationals and expatriates alike.
The report showed that infection among the UAE nationals stood at 24 per cent and 19.2 per cent among expatriates (from the age group ranging from 20 and above) living in the country. The report also showed that other dangerous factors that are related to diabetes are also widely spread, including obesity, as 33 per cent of the population is obese.
