The officer, M.M, a UAE national, departed from Sharjah Police Academy on a Diamond 40 (A6 FAE), belonging to the Fujairah Police Academy School, according to a Sharjah police official.

He was flying unaccompanied on the plane — REJA6EA — to the Fujairah Police Academy when he experienced engine snags at 4.38pm.

He was forced to make an emergency landing in the desert area of Nadadies in Al Dhaid at 5.30pm.

He suffered shock but no injuries. The fan and tyre of the plane were damaged.

Al Dhaid and Sharjah emergency authorities transported him to Al Dhaid hospital where he is recovering well.

The Sharjah police official said the man was a trainee pilot but had considerable experience. He had been flying unaccompanied in the training plane.

A UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) official confirmed the incident and said the Abu Dhabi Control Centre alerted authorities after the emergency was reported. GCAA investigators were on the scene and have begun their inquiry.
