The estimated cost of the project, including the roads leading to it, comes to Dh800 million.

Dr Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Director General of Ministry of Public Works, said that the National Paints roundabout (fifth industrial intersection) is one of the federal roads that will be renovated, under the instruction of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Federal roads improvement is part of the UAE government’s strategies to ensure modern infrastructure in the whole country. The renovation works at the National Paints will contribute a great deal in solving traffic problem in the area, making it easier for motorists using the Emirates Road.

“The National Paints intersection is one of the vital roads in the country being used by large number of motorists and school buses as well as public transport. The road also leads to important industrial areas in the country. All these reasons prompted the ministry to give it priority and to allocate such a budget to support its renovation and improvement,” he added.

Al Nuaimi pointed out that the project will go through three phases. The first, a study, will be completed by the ministry soon based on previous studies of the Department of Planning and Survey in Sharjah.

The second phase is designing and the use of a consulting firm, followed by the execution phase. The execution phase will take a period of three years as the project will be carried out along with a number of small projects that include traffic diversion to temporary routes to help the execution of the project.

An official at the Sharjah traffic police said that implementation of the project would reduce work burden of the traffic patrols.— afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
