The closure of Al Salam Street in front of the municipality building recently affected the traffic situation in the area. As a result, a new alternative route has been opened.

The municipality has added a number of signs to alert and direct drivers to the alternative routes which have been opened. Road directions have also been placed at some of the busiest intersections. Alternative routes have been created to facilitate traffic and allow road users reach their destination easily. Trucks and heavy vehicles are not allowed during peak times, which is from 6am to 8am.

In collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police, the Municipality continues to conduct field surveys with regards to Al Salam Street Projects.

About 2,250 to 3,000 vehicles per hour use the new diversion roads, and this has led to traffic congestion in the area over the past few days. The municipality, however, continues to find ways and means to remedy the situation in a timely manner.

The municipality continues to encourage motorists to stay within speed limits and respect all traffic rules. Pedestrians, on the other hand, are urged to use proper crossing areas and bridges provided by the Municipality for their own safety.

The Municipality, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police, has made huge efforts to facilitate the movement of traffic on Al Salam Street and the Tourist Club area, especially after the opening of the new alternative roads in line with the Al Salam Street Projects.

Al Salam Street Projects will pave the way for the creation of a freeway and a series of tunnels, surface roadways and junctions that will run along Al Salam Street leading to Mina Road.

The modern road network is expected to ease traffic and significantly reduce travel time across this vital stretch which connects the residential areas to the central business district.
