The Travel and Tourism Group has reported good business during this summer and expressed confidence about another round of good results in winter.
The group held its fourth meeting recently at the department's headquarters under the patronage and presence of the DTCM Director General Khalid A bin Sulayem.
Mubarak bin Fahd, Director General of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), also attended the meeting and briefed the participants on the Dubai 2003, the new Dubai International Convention Centre and the calendar of exhibitions and conferences for 2004 -2008
The participants said there has been a marked increase in the business from Japan and CIS markets, especially after the launch of direct flights by the Emirates airline. They also reported a big increase in tourists coming from other parts of the world, including France, the UK, Italy, Turkey and the Central Europe.
The members of the group thanked the department for its pro-active approach in soliciting the industry's feedback and recommendations to devise even more effective growth strategies and planning. They also discussed issues related to other government departments in reference to their businesses.
The DTCM coordinates with other government organisations on issues pertaining to the tourism industry in Dubai as part of its aim to improve the standard of services offered to the tourists.
