Top doctor conducts corneal transplants

DUBAI - Dr Fam Han Bor, Consultant Ophthalmologist at National University Hospital, Singapore, and Head of Cornea Services at the Eye Institute, National Health Care Group, conducted corneal transplant procedures at Dubai Hospital during a recent visit organised as part of the visiting doctors programme of the Dubai Department of Health and Medical Services (Dohms).

Dr Moza Al Dakheen, Deputy Head of the Ophthalmology Section at Dubai Hospital and consultant ophthalmologist and coordinator for Dr Bor’s visit, said that the Dohms organises visits by eminent medical practitioners to the department’s hospitals to continue to raise the skill level of local doctors. Dr Moza said that Dr Bor specialises in corneal transplants and during his stay at the hospital performed several corneal transplants on patients coming to Dubai Hospital.

Dr Bor examined several patients many of whom had viral infections of the cornea as well as hereditary corneal conditions. The hospital will also host Dr Dominique F. Gazelly, Head of Shoulder Department at Clinique Jouvenet, France, who will visit the hospital from September 18 to 22. Dr Michael Edgar, orthopaedic surgeon from the UK, will visit Dubai Hospital from September 25 to 29.
