The toddler’s Jordanian father, Mohammed Riaz Al Jazi, told Khaleej Times on Sunday his daughter had gone missing as the family ate dinner on Thursday night.

“Hanin suddenly disappeared from us for just a few minutes,” said Al Jazi.

His wife and three other daughters aged between three and nine frantically searched outside their Al Oraibi house but there was no sign of Hanin.

“When one of my daughters checked in the bathroom, she was shocked to find Hanin while upside-down and screaming with the head inside the bucket which was full of water,” said Al Jazi. The water had been reserved in the bucket and was to be used at home the following day.

Doctors at Saqr hospital, where Hanin had been admitted to the intensive care unit, said she had suffered brain damage. She was pronounced dead on Friday morning.

Police urged parents to closely monitor their children’s movements while at home in order to avoid such tragedies. “Parents should keep things like electrical equipments, buckets containing water out of the children’s reach, as they are dangerous and could harm their lives,” a police spokesman said.
