The ‘gold rush’ began when a passersby noticed some tiny bits of what appeared to be gold balls at about 8am in the vicinity. Within no time, the news had spread like wild fire and hundreds of people crowded the spot.

“I was passing by and noticed that a lot of people were rushing to the hospital area. I could not see what was happening. However, I just followed the mob and was stunned to see tiny pieces of glittering golden balls scattered everywhere on the road,” said one person who had collected nine of them. He claimed it was gold as he checked it later. Many other people collected the tiny goldballs, he said.

Later in the day, Dubai police personnel reached the spot and asked the people to disperse. Many people were in a frenzy to collect as many golden balls as they could before being shooed off by the police.
