This (taxes), according to him, will spur corporates to go for green buildings, and will make people think of cutting down on AC consumption and drive more fuel-efficient vehicles.

The EWS official was talking to Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the function where six short films were screened for the Press, showcasing the impact of climate change on countries like Bangladesh and some of those in Africa. The event was hosted by Integrated Regional Information Network, in association with the ‘Stand up and Take Action Campaign 2008’ of the Mission Green Earth.

“The UAE is a small place, but the consumption levels of energy resources are skyrocketing. In terms of carbon dioxide emissions in the country, the consumption of fossil fuels is disproportionate to the emission levels in developed countries,” said Alam.
