In one of the mishaps, three Iranian women of the same family were killed late on Tuesday night after a car rammed into the taxi they were travelling in on Al Wasl Road. The three victims were identified as F.A.(45), S.A.(42) and N.A.(27).

According to police sources, all three women had suffered serious head injuries. “The impact of the crash was such that the three women were reportedly thrown out of the taxi on to the road,” the police source said.

“Their bodies were taken to the General Department of Forensic Science of Dubai Police. The driver of the car that hit the taxi, has been detained for questioning,” added the police source.

Confirming the accident, an official from the Accident Department of Dubai Taxi said: “The headlights of the taxi were dimmed and hence the taxi driver couldn’t judge the distance. Moreover, the car was speeding. The driver, M.N., was not seriously injured.”

In the other mishap, two Indian nationals died in a car accident near the Mall of the Emirates on Shaikh Zayed Road on Tuesday evening, hospital and police sources said yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Shamsudheen (30) and Shihab (28). Both hailed from the south Indian state of Kerala. The accident occurred when the car the victims were travelling in crashed with a pick-up van. The two men died on the spot. Their bodies are currently kept in the Dubai Police morgue.
