According to Adil Ali Al Deek, head of the Environmental and Health Department in RAK Municipality the violations included running the restaurants without kitchens, preparing foodstuff in the open, selling rotten food and employing workers without health cards. One of the restaurants was found preparing food in a fenced area near the restaurant instead of in the kitchen.

Al Deek said the restaurants also failed to meet the health and hygiene standards despite several warnings from municipal inspectors.

“The restaurants were dirty and flies were found all over the tables as the workers were littering waste everywhere. The restaurants did not have garbage bins,” he pointed out.

The restaurant workers transported food in a van and sold it to workers at construction sites without the municipality’s permission.
