The suspects included two Arabs and an Asian.
The General Department of Anti-Narcotics said its officers received reliable information that a 26-year-old Asian carpenter, who is married, possessed drugs. After verifying the information and taking permission from the Public Prosecution, a police team headed by an anti-narcotic officer laid a trap in Rafaa area and arrested the first suspect, R.K, who confessed that he had a large number of heroin capsules.
He said he hid the capsules under the front seat of his car and drove from Al Ain to Dubai to hand them over to an Arab man who was supposed to meet him near a shopping mall.
The anti-narcotic officers headed to the area and arrested the 30-year-old Arab suspect, who works as a driver, and his 22-year-old Arab companion, who is unemployed.
The second suspect confessed that he came to the shopping mall to meet the Asian suspect and that another Asian suspect, who lives in an Asian country, had coordinated with the first suspect to supply him the drugs for smuggling them to a neighbouring Arab country.
The three suspects have been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution. The police have accused the first suspect of drug possession and promotion and the second suspect of drug use and drug possession, while the third suspect has been accused of participating with criminals and suspected drug use.
Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, called on the community members to inform the police on toll-free number 800400400 or the duty officer on 0505516218 or the Dubai Police website about any drug-related activities.
