The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) yesterday announced the line-up of events, including family-oriented edutainment programmes highlighting the country’s rich culture and heritage.
The activities, mainly in the evening, will be held at Heritage and Diving Village in Al Shindagha and Hatta Heritage Village in addition to Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Festival City, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Emirates Towers Hotel and Hamarain Centre.
Details of the programmes were unveiled at a Press conference held at the DTCM Head Office yesterday by Hakam Al Hashimi, DTCM Director Events, Shaikha Al Mutawa, Chairperson of National Day Celebrations Committee at DTCM, and Khalifa Al Falasi, Deputy Chairman of National Day Celebrations Committee.
As many as 28 major programmes have been lined up with November 30 to commence festivities with a 36-metre-cake, prepared by 36 chefs in 3,600 hours from Jumeirah-operated hotels, will be cut at the Dubai Festival City at 6pm. The cake will have the scale models of the Union House — the spot in Dubai where the national flag was hoisted to mark the formation of the UAE on December 2, 1971 — surrounded by Jumeirah properties like Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers, Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa.
A 10-minute fireworks display from Dubai Creek and Al Maktoum Bridge will add more appeal to Dubai’s colourful skyline from 8pm on November 30.
The programmes to be held at Heritage and Diving Village in Al Shindagha on November 30 are Me and the Union competitions, Our Nation Shows, Puppet Show, My Emirates My Union Exhibition, Golden Touches Exhibition, Handicrafts Display, National Plays, Folklore Groups performances, Clowns Carnival and Horses Show.
A Poetry Evening will be held at Heritage Village Stage on December 1 in addition to the Police Band performances. Traditional Cooking competitions will be held at the Al Shindagha Traditional Village from November 30 to December 2 from 6pm to 10pm.
The Biggest Heritage Emirates Sweets Buffet will be organised at the Al Shindagha Traditional Village on December 1 from 6.30 pm to 10 pm. December 2 will see the biggest Cooking Celebrations at the same venue from 6pm to 10pm.
