The collected books will be later donated to the less fortunate readers in a chosen third world country, giving them the opportunity to read and gain knowledge.
“We wish to make the ADIBF the treasure trove of information and knowledge — helping everyone to read and discover whilst taking books to readers where books are not readily available to them,” said Jumaa Abdulla Al Qubaisi, director of the fair. The fair this year is also lending a helping hand to children unable to sea or speak. The very popular Creativity Corner, a learning and creative space for children between six and 12 years at the fair, has announced a series of sign language workshops — We Hear With Our Eyes and Draw With Our Fingertips.
During these daily (except Friday) workshops, sign language interpreters from Abu Dhabi Rehab and Care for Special Needs People, as well as the Blind Printing Press and Abu Dhabi Centre for Autism are interacting with special needs children, helping them to enjoy the Creativity Corner and communicate with other children.
For the adults, the ADIBF has just announced the launch of the iPhone and iPad Application “ADIBF 2012”, which is now available on the App Store.
“The iPhone and iPad application ADIBF 2012 allows users a visual interface to explore all information about the book fair in minute details and is available as a free download from the App Store. This is part of our endeavour to actively engage smart phone users and offering them a chance to be part of this unique ADIBF experience,” said Al Qubaisi.
The new application provides users with an overview of the various facets of the fair, including information about the wide array of the titles on show at the exhibition, the cultural and professional programmes and events running during the six-day fair. The App also sends notifications before the start of the various events.
