The men, the sea and the wharfage

The men load and unload cargo — from oil, food, furniture and electronic items to textiles — cook, eat, pray and sleep on the boats and travel to countries like Kuwait, Oman, Iran, Pakistan and India. The days are long and the nights short for them, for they have stomachs to feed back home, sisters and daughters to marry off and sons to be groomed to take over the mantle. They know not what they may encounter each time they venture out into the sea — high tide, cyclones, sea animals or technical snags — or when they would see land again.

The wharfage has a life of its own … in the midst of a teeming city but far removed from its joy!
