The tour included Jebel Ali Depot, Red Line at the grade near Jebel Ali Free Zone Area (JAFZA), and the metro station at Jebel Ali Industrial Area, a Press release said.

The Jebel Ali Depot includes garages for train carriages and is equipped with an air-conditioning system and a highly sophisticated fire-fighting system.

The depot has a capacity of 44 trains, each with five carriages.

It is anticipated that there will be 62 trains at the time of commencing of operations on both the Red and Green Lines of Dubai Metro.

The depot includes a Rail Operations Control Centre to ensure the safety of doors, brakes and motors of each train. It also includes maintenance workshops, and train washing and cleaning workshops.

Al Tayer gave directions to prepare well for the testing of Dubai Metro. The trains will begin to arrive in Dubai by March.

Al Tayer also reviewed the progress of construction of the Red Line at the grade near JAFZA, where the technical trial run of Dubai Metro will be conducted.

“The trial run is crucial to ascertain the operational readiness of the train and ensure functionality of all control systems under various working conditions.

“Tests will include several aspects such as braking, air-conditioning, power supply systems, air supply systems, checking coupling of train carriages, power failure tests, rail monitoring and control system, and functional tests of the train.”

“They also include several door tests undertaken by the contractor such as repeated door opening and closing, role of doors when the train is in motion and tests related to door control buttons,” he added.

Al Tayer directed the people concerned to take all necessary procedures to prevent rainwater from reaching the sector during rainfall.

“The proofing material has to be tested and the system has to be efficient in draining the expected rainwater so that rail operation will not be disrupted by bad weather conditions,” commented Al Tayer.

Al Tayer also inspected the elevated metro station at Jebel Ali Industrial Area, which is one of 24 elevated stations to be constructed along the elevated track of the Red Line.

The roofs of stations have been designed like a large shell symbolising the interaction of the UAE people with diving and pearl fishing.
