Ismail, who hails from Kerala, left Umm Al Quwain with two passengers (both Arabs) but had not returned home till last evening. His taxi is also missing.

According to Dawood Babu, one of Ismail's relatives who tried to contact him several times on his mobile phone, "After he left for Abu Dhabi he called up his roommates to say he would be returning within an hour. But after that one phone call, we failed to contact him again. We have lodged a complaint at a police station in Umm Al Quwain."

"We don't know the identity of either of his two passengers. Ismail has been living in the UAE for the past 37 years and worked as a taxi driver for 25 years. He was fully familiar with almost all places in the Emirates. He always returned home on time or otherwise called up his roommates to inform them that he would be late. But now his mobile phone is switched off and nobody has any idea what has happened to him," Babu said.

"The police officials informed us that they have flashed messages to all other police stations in the UAE. I hope they will trace him soon," he added.

"I have informed his family in India about his mysterious disappearance and they are now obviously worried. I hope nothing untoward has happened to him," he said adding that Ismail suffered from cardiac problems.
