Stating that 50 per cent of the appointed candidates were women, he said the Authority, since its establishment, had trained and employed more than 6400 job seekers till the first quarter of 2005.

As for training job seekers to enhance their chances in securing jobs, Tanmia had trained 2900 job seekers in partnership with different specialised training institutions. Another 1300 candidates were also trained last year, he said.
The official mentioned that the Authority had also chalked out different training programmes in several fields for job seekers so as to equip them with basic information about the requirements of jobs that are on demand in the local labour market.
"We have developed training programmes on International Computer Driving Licence, Business English and Sales and Executive Customer Service to provide candidates with the basics requirements which would assist them to in getting jobs," said Mr Sawalih, adding that hands-on training was also planned for those already employed to upgrade their skills.
Significantly, 40 per cent of the new board members of the Authority, under the chairmanship of Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Chairman of Tanmia, are eminent UAE National women. They are actively involved in chalking out effective programmes for training and employing nationals, and improving the working conditions for women in the local labour market, especially since 70 per cent of the job seekers are females.
Recent statistics showed that last year, the Authority provided its services to over 14000 students in more than 280 schools across the country.
Meanwhile, the Centre for Labour Market Research and Information at Tanmia, has generated a database for the Authority's various sectors to identify the job requirements in specific organisations as per the quota stated in the ministerial decree; stipulating four per cent of emiratisation in the banking sector, five per cent in the insurance sector and two per cent in the business sector.
The Authority also carried out numerous projects in favour of the local labour market, including setting up of a committee for developing small and medium enterprises in the UAE, and carrying out field studies focusing on job conditions, salaries and necessary skills in the sectors in an effort to boost the chances of employing nationals in these enterprises.
