The one-way 150-kilometre journey was aimed at spreading cancer awareness and raising funds to purchase books related to the disease.

The cyclists headed south-east along the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road towards the majestic Jebel Hafeet, the highest mountain in the country, reaching their final destination seven hours later.

Sam Fatima, a faculty member at ADMC who led the initiative and whose wife died of cancer, said: "We are all here today to participate in the bike ride to promote cancer awareness."

During her treatment, Lori kept an online diary that could be found on her website www. cancer battleplan.info.

"To make a donation, contact Sam Fatima via email on sam. fatima @hct.ac.ae," he added

Alec Macleod Napier, Head of Patients Affairs at Tawam Hospital, said: "We were delighted to receive them after their journey."
