This initiative will offer teachers in host schools training in IT and will provide students with opportunities to use computers and other resources to enhance their learning experiences. This is the first time the unit is staffed both by an Education graduate and an Information Administration (IA) graduate who were trained at Sharjah Women’s College, a SWC official said.

A large, renovated truck trailer, the MLU acquired by the college in 2003 with funding from His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah is refurbished into a state-of-the-art mobile classroom, currently equipped with 21 computers, learning resources and software applications.

“The MLU will improve accessibility to technology and educational resources for students and teachers at schools across the UAE, regardless of their location,” said Mark Thompson, Supervisor of the Centre for Applied Studies in Education at Sharjah Women’s College. “At the same time, the MLU provides our Education and IA graduates with a great opportunity to work in the field in a number of schools across the country.”

As UAE teachers and students face increasing demands for improved IT skills, the MLU has also been launched to help address this requirement. So far, the unit has been very successful in providing training to students and teachers.
