This is the perception of Dr Bishara Nassar Sharbel, a Lebanese journalist with a Ph.D. in Arab and Islamic Studies from Paris Sorbonne University, in a feature article titled "Calculations of the Decisive Battle".

His analytical paper, examining the worsening situation in the Middle East, has been published recently by the the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR).

Interestingly, he argues that Lebanon was already going through a critical internal political crisis, before the current Israeli aggression worsened the situation.

The divisions between the parliamentary majority and the two Shia movements, Amal and Hezbollah, were deepening.

Lebanon is now witnessing a devastating war and the international community, asserts Dr Bishara, fears that the present crisis may lead to the involvement of disparate elements in a bigger regional dispute.
