Strike: 66 workers deported

SHARJAH : The Ministry of Labor office in Sharjah yesterday deported 66 workers who had instigated their colleagues to go in strike early this week.

250 workers of a contracting company went on strike on Thursday in Al Saja area. The sharjah police rushed to site and controlled the worker who caused chaos and unrest in the labor camp . Besides, some 184 workers were convinced by the labour officials to return to work.

The 250 workers of the contracting company once again protested yesterday outside their labour camp located behind Tuba Company in the 5th Industrial area in Sharjah. The workers asked for salary raise, allowances and overtime.

The Sharjah Police received information at 8.20 am that workers were protesting. The police rushed to the site to prevent workers from getting out of their labor camp on to the main road and block traffic on the road.

Ayman Al Radwan , legal researcher at labor office in Sharjah said that earlier the workers had submitted their demands to the labour office in Sharjah . Immediately, the Ministry official held meeting with the company officials who immediately agreed to provide comprehensive insurance to workers and food allowance of Dh 200, in addition to annual return ticket to their homelands, free electricity.

However, workers involved in instigating the strike are being deported by the Ministry of labour, he said.
