The main stress was on finalising a coordinated strategy regarding how best to protect both human and animal population, especially the country's poultry resources.

The participants focused on diseases that are transfered from animals and birds to human beings.

The need to adopt international verification systems for diagnosing and checking afflicted animals was also discussed, besides the upgradation of the country's veterinary services.

The GCC member countries have been encouraged to produce veterinary vaccines in coordination with regional and international organisations involved in combating the bird flu menace.

Participants of the two-day meeting, which concludes today, will also discuss a draft joint agreement between GCC member states and countries that import UAE animal and poultry products.
