Stern steps against traffic rule violators

DUBAI — Brigadier Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Director of General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police, has warned that strict measures would be taken against traffic rule violators.

He said that the police have started the cancellation of driving licences of the heavy truck drivers who jump traffic signals. He said last month the department seized many heavy trucks, six of them for jumping the traffic signals.

He called upon the companies to organise awareness campaigns for drivers as such violations will affect people's safety and lead to damage to properties.

Lieutenant Younus Mohamed Sherif said the traffic department of Dubai Police has seized 828 vehicles, of which 237 were seized by the traffic police and 66 by the General Department of Criminal investigation.

The Department has also seized six motorcycles for violating the traffic rules. The department last month released 752 vehicles on expiry of their validity periods.
