Starwood to open two new hotels in May

DUBAI — Starwood Hotels and Resorts will add nearly 700 rooms to the city’s tourism sector with the opening of two new hotels in May this year.

It will aid the accommodation shortage in Dubai’s tourism sector, especially with the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) expecting around 10 million tourists by 2010.

Hotels averaged an 82 per cent occupancy rate last year, according to DTCM and 63,317 units are expected to come on line by 2010.

Starwood, the parent company for Sheraton, Westin and Meridien, is scheduled to open Four Points by Sheraton on Shaikh Zayed Road and The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina in May. Four Points by Sheraton Shaikh Zayed Road will be a 43-storey glass and steel tower with views of Jumeirah coastline and Shaikh Zayed Road.
