Inspection campaigns to eliminate the menace of such dangerous fraud should cover all tyres sale outlets to ensure all auto parts showcased in these outlets are in full compliance with EASM specifications.

The soaring temperatures, which shot up to new highs over the past weeks, can quickly expose whether a particular pair of tyres are the genuine article or a cheap, sub-standard, substitue.

Given the risks involved in this case, the authorities concerned (like the municipality) must launch more effective public awareness campaigns. Also, stringent action should be taken against those found guilty of trading in such fake or substitute goods.

A single tyre burst in a vehicle moving at high speed, which is more likey to be the case if the driver is knowingly or unknowingly using a sub-standard tyre, can easily end in tragedy.

But with some care and vigilance many such disasters can be avoided which is why we urge the authorities concerned to act in this matter. And soon.
