"The committee, since its restructuring in 1997, has taken special care of programmes and projects of global and regional organisations, including Unesco, Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (Alesco), Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Isesco) and the AGCC Arab Education Bureau," the minister said yesterday while addressing a general meeting of the committee, held at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.

"These programmes are aimed at developing the Arab society and enhancing free dialogue among Islamic and Arab countries and other cultures and religions.

"They also have the objective of coordinating AGCC efforts in the field of education, culture and science," he said.
The ministry was keen to benefit from these projects to develop its ambitious plan based on Vision 2020, to modernise educational programmes in the country, Dr Sharhan said.

He commended the membership of the UAE in these organisations and described it as a valuable investment that served UAE"s interests and development.

Addressing the meeting, Awad Ali Salih, Secretary-General of the NCESC, said that the UAE had achieved 90 per cent of the goals of these organisations, in addition to other joint programmes and activities with these international and regional institutions.
