The pavilion has launched a programme of regular auditions for amateurs and will introduce them to the visitors who gather in front of the pavilion’s stage in the evenings to listen to Pakistani music and folk songs.

The initiative, titled, ‘Talent Hunt’, was announced at the official opening of the pavilion by the Pakistan Consul General Amjad Ali Sher. Singers of all ages, divided in two groups of below and above age 18, can participate.

Sher told Khaleej Times that representation at the pavilion has been given to all sectors of business and the number of stalls increased to 98 from last year’s 80. The pavilion façade is a replica of the famous Lahore Fort.

Amjad said the aim of the participants is to establish permanent business relations with their counterparts in the region for their products. “Emphasis is on quality products at competitive prices,” he said.

Rehan Siddiqui, head of chancery and chief coordinator of Pakistan Participation at the DSF, said the pavilion stage will not only be used to promote singing talent, but also to showcase Pakistani handicrafts to the visitors.

“On family days free henna will be applied and bangles will be given free to visitors. Pakistani painters’ creations will be displayed and live painting demonstrations will be held. Ajrak printing and pottery painting will also be demonstrated,” Siddiqui said.

“The aim is to keep the stage alive,” Siddiqui said. Young Pakistanis dressed in the provincial costumes presented Pakistani folk songs as well as national songs to a huge crowd gathered in front of the stage.

Cultural programmes will be a regular activity on the stage, Sharafat Ali Shah, organiser, said.
