The agreement opens the door before outstanding members of this group to complete their study abroad at the expense of the government.

Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, told Khaleej Times after the signing ceremony that these centres were a brainchild of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan with the aim of investing the creative skills of people with special needs. He said that the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, are also following in the steps of the late Shaikh Zayed.

“Our wise leadership is working to activate the role of this category in the government sector,” he said.

“The agreement is a historic achievement as it offers jobs to people with special needs and gives them the opportunity to apply for government positions based on their qualifications and competence,” Lt-Gen Shaikh Saif, added, expressing his hope that the landmark move would produce its desired results in various emirates. He disclosed that the Interior Ministry had appointed 167 graduates of these centres in different emirates, of whom 24 are in the education sector.

The Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Civil Service Department, Rashid Mubarak, affirmed the government’s commitment to take job seekers from this group at 1 to 2 per cent of the available jobs in the labour market.

“The department is not only fully ready to appoint graduates of these centres immediately after their graduation, but also to offer them the opportunity to complete their study abroad at the expense of the government,” he added.

Supervisor-General of the centres Nasser Aziz Maktoum said that 167 out of 240 graduates over the last three years were given jobs at the Interior Ministry, 40 got jobs at the Defence Ministry, and 24 in different bodies. “Forty graduates every year will be given jobs under this agreement,” he added.

He called on the Ministry of Government Development Sector and other local departments to interact with these centres.
