On Monday, Our Own English High School, Sharjah, was powerless for almost six hours in the afternoon. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Dr Farooq A. Wasil, principal of the school, said, "We had a power cut around 3pm. When we enquired with Sewa, they told us it would be restored soon. However, it didn't come for almost six hours and the children and the teachers in the afternoon shift had to go through a lot of discomfort."

The school was told that there was some technical fault and there was no clear indication of when power would be restored.

Similarly, the International School of Choueifat in Sharjah also went without power for an hour.

However, the school clarified it did not have too much of a problem as it was only for a short duration.

Children in the primary section of Wesgreen International School were unable to use toilets yesterday as the school had to go without power and water for over three hours.

Principal J. Calafato, said, "Sewa was immediately alerted after the power went off in the morning. They said a cable wire was wrongly cut off while carrying out road construction work in the area by Sharjah authorities."

“The school continued to function without electricity, in the hope that power would be restored soon,” the principal said, adding that no relief was in sight until the school closed for the day.

Sewa officials, however, said electricity was disconnected in Wesgreen School because of damage to a power cable.

Sewa engineers detected the fault in the operation room and immediately rushed to the site to fix the damaged cable. However, Sewa denied electricity and water disruption in any other school.
