Soft face of city cops

ABU DHABI — Dubai Police can be expected to adopt community policing methods to prevent crime and resolve social tensions.

A delegation from the Human Rights Department of Dubai Police has visited the Social Support Centre and the Child Jockeys Rehabilitation Centre of Abu Dhabi Police to get acquainted with achievements of community policing and its effectiveness in prevention of many problems.

The delegation was received at the Social Support Centre by Lt-Col Dr Abdullah Mohammed Bu Hindi, Acting Director of Community Policing, who gave a briefing on the objectives achieved by the centre including settlement of disputes through reconciliation and providing required psychological support to victims of violence among women and children.

Lt-Col Bu Hindi told the delegation that these issues were solved in a sophisticated manner while ensuring confidentiality. Some cases are being referred to the police stations where they are handled by qualified social workers.

At the Child Jockeys Rehabilitation Centre in Bani Yas the delegation was received by Major Saif Al Khaili, Officer In-charge of Rehabilitation Centres.
